Causes of sleeping problems

Causes of sleeping problems Sleeping problems can have different causes. Very often the night's rest is disturbed by a combination of factors working together:
  • External influences: sunlight, a noisy environment, snoring, the partner, the temperature in the bedroom, working shifts, change of time (jet lag, daylight saving time...), different environment, an uncomfortable bed, ...
  • all kinds of habits we have gotten use to: not enough exercise, lack of relaxation during the day, changing bedtimes, too much drinks before bedtime such as alcohol, coffee, tea, coke, ... a stomach that's too full or too empty,...
  • Physical factors: itches, allergies, breathing difficulties, pain (e.g. back, joints, stomach, head aches, ...) fever, urinal problems,...
  • All types of anxiety, tension and worries regarding difficult situations or events that seem hopeless e.g. a death, fatal illness, financial difficulties, conflict situations with a partner or the children, problems at work...
  • Fear of getting out of bed and not being able to go to sleep again...
  • Use of certain sedatives e.g. tranquillizers, some painkillers, uplifting substances,...
