Good sleep makes you live longer An
American study at the University of San Diego investigating the sleeping habits of people aged
between 30 and 102 years old over a period of six year, seems to contradict the fact that
people need 8 hours of sleep per night on average.
The study also revealed that people who sleep 6 to 7 hours a day on average live longer than people who sleep 8 to 9 hours or less than 4 hours. Even people who only sleep 5 hours seem to live longer than those who sleep an average of 8 hours. Also, people who take sleeping pills regularly seem to pass away sooner. So 8 hours of sleep per day is not that healthy. Furhtermore, people who sleep 8 hours have 12% more risk of dying prematurely than those who sleep 6,7 or even 7,5 hours a day. This research has without any doubt been a very interesting one, and seems to be a very reliable one based on the amount of subjects, their age group and the research period. It needs to be noted, however, that the people themselves had to report how long they slept, which of course isn't absolutely reliable. |
