What is 4D comfort |
diagonal stretch pattern for 4d waterbeds
An average waterbed still can't take away all the pressure on the
body. Because of tension on the PVC surface of the mattress, it still creates pressure. By creating
a stretch pattern on the mattress surface, there are no pressure points. Only a few brands offer
this option. No other system has such a well thought-out and scientifically based technique as the
4D-Comfort system. 4D-waterbed mattresses make use of a patented diagonal stretch pattern, which
has several advantages compared with other stretch patterns.
Why a diagonal comfort pattern?
Because the pelvis is the heaviest body part, the water mattress will sink deepest in
the pelvic area of the body. This means that the tension on the vinyl is biggest in the area of the
pelvis.
If you compare the top of a water container with a harmonica, you will notice that the container is only stretched sideways, leaving the pelvis insufficiently supported, especially when sleeping on your side. The pelvis sinks too deep into the mattress.
The second water container only stretches along lengthwise. The two pelvises are connected by a piece of vinyl under tension, which makes you wake each other up when turning in your sleep. This method causes a 'balloon effect', making the heavier person push the lighter person upwards.
In the third case you can see that the pelvis of the left person and the head of the right person are carried by diagonal B, while the pelvis and feet of the right person are carried by diagonal A. Hereby creating an ideal weight distribution all over the mattress surface, and reducing the pressure even more. Meanwhile it makes sure the pelvic area is fully and individually supported. This way the movements of one of the partners won't bother the other partner as easily. Mathematically the 4D-mattress can be expressed as follows : Weight on diagonal A Weight on diagonal B ---------------------------- = -------------------------- Length diagonal A Length diagonal B This means the pressure on both diagonals is constant providing equal pressure on the whole surface area of the mattress. No other mattress can achieve these ideal results, that's why the 4D-mattress is so far ahead of all the others. Additional advantages
Because there's no pressure on a 4D-water container, which is due to its elastic comfort
surface, the welded seams aren't put under pressure. This gives the material an even greater
durability.
Compatible bedding for the 4D-Comfort system The perfectly adjustable comfort surface only makes sense if the quilt on top of the water container also adjusts to your body. That's why the brands, which use the 4D-Comfort mattresses all have a split softside. This border makes sure that there's never any tension on the cover (quilt), by moving along with the bodies on the mattress and the cover (quilt).
A fixated edge keeps the quilt tightened, making it impossible for
the body to adjust. The result is that the body lies more on top of the mattress rather than in it,
causing more pressure all over due to the tension in the cover.
A partially moving edge ensures the quilt will move along with the rest and won't cause any tension. |
